Exclusive interview with Isobel Wren
Isobel Wren gives an exclusive interview to Freeones where she answers some very interesting questions about what it’s like for her working in the adult industry…
What made you decide to start adult modeling?
*grin* I was broke and in college! A bogus “agent” told me he could get me a lot of money, took pictures of me and then disappeared. I thought, “If this asshole thinks I can do it, I bet you I can.” so I put up a modeling profile with some pictures that a friend had taken of me. He actually made me buy them from him, I’d done them as a favor for an art project of his, but he said that since I’d be making money off them he wanted 50 bucks!
What did you do before you started this career path?
I was studying to be an environmental scientist. I have a bachelors of science in Environmental Science.
If you had the opportunity to erase this part of your life and start over, would you?
I would do it differently, but I would still do it. I would know who to shoot with and when, to maximize my career!
Are you open about your profession with those that ask, or are there people you’re reluctant to tell.
I am pretty proud of my work and told everyone I knew at first…which is when I learned that some people are porn haters. So I’ve scaled it back since then. Since I run my own website I generally tell strangers that I’m a web manager just to avoid the hassle. However, I have been known to tell people I do porn just to scandalize them and make them leave me alone *impish grin*
How long do you plan on staying in this business? Do you have any plans for when you retire?
I plan on staying in the business until I get tired of it. I don’t want to be running around as a MILF or GILF, but if I’m still having fun and getting booked, why not keep going? I’m ambitious! If I retire I’m going back into the environmental field.
What’s the best part of your job? The worst?
The best part is definitely the fans, the travel and the excitement. I love meeting new people, being enjoyed and getting little perks (holy crap, people think I’m hot!). The worst part is the people who don’t understand porn and act like I’m some kind of sub-human. Also, the blood tests. I have to get the AIM blood test and I hate getting jabbed with needles! *laughs*
What’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you so far in regards to working in this business?
I got my period while a girl was going down on me. I thought I was going to DIE of mortification.
Are you going to ever try something different in the adult industry, such as hardcore or girl/girl acting?
I am back and forth about whether or not I’d be open to b/g. As more and more of my friends go that way it seems like a fun thing to do, but I’m still not sure if I’m ready to take that step yet. The funny thing is that I’m not even sure what “step” that is, per se, it just feels different, like something I’m shy about, something I still want to keep to myself. I am, however, experimenting with anal play in my personal life and once I get that down it’s something I want to share with my fans.
What was the very first thing that you bought with your first adult modeling paycheck?
I paid off all my bills! *laughs* I went on a “shootout” kind of work shop and that was the most cash I had ever held in my hands at one time. I fanned my hands through the big wad of it, giggling, and then I deposited it in the bank and was totally debt free (except for my student loans).
Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend? What do they think of your modeling?
I have a boyfriend. He wouldn’t have met me if I didn’t model, so he’d BETTER be supportive! We have a very open and supportive relationship. I’m a pretty adventurous girl so it has to be that way.
Do you have any pets?
I used to have a mynah bird who I’d had since I was a teenager. She contracted a terminal liver disease recently. It was very sad. When I finish mourning her I’d like to have snakes, or maybe a cockatoo. I’d love to keep large spiders, like a tarantula or something, but the boyfriend is terrified of them. He says he’d squash them the second I left the house.
What do you like to do when you’re not modeling? Do you have any hobbies?
I like to cook. I find myself at the gym an awful lot, even though I wouldn’t say I like it, it appears to be growing on me. Since I run my own website and another one (fivenakedmodels.com) I spend just a STUPID amount of time online playing with design and layout and geeking out with other webmasters. When it’s warm I love to hike, rock climb and swim (you cannot get me out of the water). I’ve just started game nights with my friends and I volunteer for environmental and social activism projects sporadically…aka, not as much as I’d like to or feel that I should.
What kind of music is on your iPod?
I have the 8 gig Iphone, so I’ve had to cut a significant amount of my music off the thing to keep my phone numbers and solitaire on there. Most notably there’s my gym playlist, which has a lot of just nasty gangsta rap (like “salt shaker” by the Ying Yang Twins), alt rock and nerdcore rap. Other than that, I’m paging through it now and it seems to be mostly Interpol, Modest Mouse, the Gaskets, Mary Prankster and assorted indie rock.
What kind of car do you drive?
I don’t have a car. I wish I did, but medical bills have overwhelmed me and I need to get those paid off before I can even look for a car. If I got one I’d like to get an old diesel that I could convert to grease burning.
What’s your favorite movie?
Hmmmm, Paulie the Parrot. *laughs* it’s a kids movie, but I love it. Movies are tough for me because I forget they exist until I see them again and then I go, “ooh! I LOVE that movie!” Some movies I can think of off the top of my head; Frida, Zoolander, Tank Girl, Spirited Away. I also love old sci fi sexploitation stuff like Barbarella and those depressing American life kind of movies like American Beauty. International fantasy and horror films are always great because so much of what one finds frightening or mind bending is culturally based. I have NO idea what all the symbols and clues in Night Watch are, but damned if it’s not super interesting.
Where is the one place you’d like to travel to that you haven’t been to yet?
There are TONS of places I want to travel to! Thailand, France, the Mediterranean, the steppes in China, the Galapagos, Peru, the Pacific Northwest, Death Valley, the Everglades, I want to see glaciers, I want to visit every US National park, I want to see everything there is to see!
If you won a million dollars, would you stop modeling?
Yes! Um. No. Probably not. Well….A million dollars is a lot of money, but I could burn through it awfully fast if I didn’t invest it right. If I truly could do anything I wanted without ever worrying about money again I’d stop modeling and just travel and help the environment. However, if I wasn’t sure that the money would last I’d want to keep working until I could be sure that it would be well set up. Also, I’ve got some career goals that I’m still working towards and don’t feel I’ve achieved. I hate to quit in the middle of things, and I wouldn’t want to feel unresolved.
When dating guys, what is your biggest turnoff?
Fat and bad teeth. I hate to say it, I feel shallow, but physically, that’s it. I can’t deal with heavy guys, I don’t know why, and teeth that appear or smell dirty make me gag. Mentally, racists, sexists and other close minded people need not apply. I’m open minded and sexually free. If you’re going to try and make me feel bad about the fact that I’ve dated black guys or enjoy tranny porn or being slapped around in bed, I don’t need you.
Do you have any future goals or ambitions?
I want to make a difference. I want to change things, make people feel better about themselves, think about what they’re doing with their lives….and I want to be Miss America. Just kidding about that last part. Penthouse Pet would be fine. Great, actually. I’d have to fight not to pee myself if I made Pet.
What would you like your current and future fans to know about you?
Dang. Just when I thought I’d made it through the interview with minimal stupidity showing. I would like people to know that I’m not going to judge them. I just want the world to be a better place…..man that sounds mushy.
