Twitter Criticised For Porn Bots Piggybacking Trending

April 28, 2017, by Steve

Interesting little article here about how porn bots have been piggybacking top trends on Twitter and littering said timelines with rude imagery.

The thing is, either I have an industrial strength ad blocker or am extremely ignorant (it could be both those things, really), but I haven’t noticed this that much, and I do use Twitter quite a lot.

(@TomCruise – oh come on, you suspected it along!)

That’s not to say it doesn’t go on, I’d be surprised if it does. But I don’t really think there’s much Twitter can do about it other than have staff patrolling those timelines 24/7 and removing tweets and accounts.

And, even if there is porn there, as long as it’s legal then can or should they remove it? I’m not sure. It’s an irritant (for some) more than anything.
