Google Baulks At Removing Deepfakes From Searches

April 24, 2018, by Steve

I disagree with this article by Bustle when it talks about Google not removing deepfakes of Melania Trump from its search engine and describes it as “confusing”.

It even shows itself during its article why Google might not remove them. As much as deepfakes are morally questionable at the very least, there are complexities surrounding their existence that make them harder to deal with than, say, revenge porn.

Plus there’s the fact that Google is a search engine. It’s not creating content, it’s cataloguing it. I’m not defending them on this at all, merely playing Devil’s Advocate.

It’s all confusing alright, just not in the way that is being suggested here.
