The Daily Show Skit Tackles Porn Racism

I haven’t watched much of The Daily Show since Stephen Colbert decided to leave the show but this skit about racism in porn really did catch my eye.

Although shot mostly in response to the controversy about this year’s Oscars lacking diversity in its nominations, it is actually a razor sharp and spot on skit – but one that also left me frustrated in a way.

It’s very funny and very true but left me frustrated that it didn’t get at why many performers worked these scenes despite their questionable titles especially and if the performers in them are comfortable working under titles like Black Wives Matter.

It also doesn’t tackle why interracial only describes black-on-white sex scenes. But its piece about performers who will not work with black porn stars is something that needs to be addressed a lot more seriously in porn.

As is pointed out in this video, in what other industry could you refuse to work with someone because they’re black? It’s not allowed anywhere else, and it shouldn’t be allowed in porn. (https://realdetroitweekly.com/)
