The British sense of humour is famed worldwide and rightly so, thanks to those named above and many, many more besides. But what happened when a pub owner made a cheeky and complete inoffensive gag on a sign outside his establishment?
According to the BBC, he was told to take it down in case somebody took offence. There’s no suggestion that anybody DID take offence, but he was told someone might.
And with this being in middle/upper class white England, somebody definitely would have done, believe me. I do love the po-faced police statement saying that they had to investigate because the pub doesn’t have a licence for that kind of thing.
