The Case Against Porn Addiction

Another terrific piece in The Daily Beast is the latest article to criticise the continued belief in pornography addiction and has put forward evidence that a belief in porn addiction may in itself be a problem.

The latter point is perhaps what is most interesting here. The suggestion is that a need for people to pin the blame for their psychological problems on an issue that is simply not there is blame-shifting and a serious issue in itself.

Like I say, it’s a terrific piece but I do believe the porn industry itself has played some part in the widespread belief that porn addiction is a serious widespread problem.

I’ve seen quite a number of sites that offer links to sites and alleged charities that will help people with a porn ‘addiction’. The industry really is its own worst enemy sometimes and here’s hoping that it, more than anyone, pays attention to pieces like this.
