UK Academic Calls For Porn To Wake Up To Mental Health Issues

February 25, 2018, by Steve

I was just mentioning to work colleagues here at FreeOnes that the highlight of my working week is finding stories about porn to blog about.

By that, I normally mean the funny, weird and downright disturbing stories I happen across numerous times a week. But occasionally you stumble on a serious piece of writing about porn that is even more rewarding, and that’s the case with this piece by Rosie Hodsdon.

Hodsdon, who is studying for a PhD in Law and Sexuality at the prestigious Northumbia University, has written a strong article about how the industry needs to start seriously addressing the subject of mental health among its performers.

And it really must. The porn industry is a complex one that can often demand some serious emotional involvement from its performers, and is bound to have a detrimental effect on those who are not in a position to cope with its demands.

I’d like to see adult companies provide mental health checks and help to its performers, freelance or contracted. Because as August Ames‘ widower Kevin Moore pointed out at the recent AVN Awards, we do not want to see another spate of deaths of beautiful young women like we have recently ever again.
