Salon have published a story today where it details the problems that sites, business and campaigns linked to porn sites have had in being able to give away the sometimes considerable sums of money they have raised for charity.
This is something that FreeOnes knows about all too well. Back in 2010, we raised over $10,000 for charity and had the money turned down by numerous charities until Wounded Warriors accepted. Last year, following the hideous attack on Christy Mack we raised over $3800 via Miss FreeOnes sponsorships and were turned away by numerous domestic violence survivors charities – in Las Vegas of all places! That was before the wonderful The Cupcake Girls.
So, unfortunately, such a story doesn’t surprise us. Money raised by porn sites and performers is still seen as ‘dirty money’ by many charities, many of whom then turn around and complain that they are not receiving enough donations. Legitimate and legal businesses such as ours are told that they can’t accept our money due to ‘moral and religious’ reasons.
It’s a very sad and demoralising state of affairs – but please continue to support these charities. They need your money, but some apparently need it more than others
