Is Mainstream Porn Suffering From Unrealistic Sex?

April 22, 2015, by Steve

This marvellous article by Jenny Guérin quite rightly supposes that the recent slight decline in the fortunes of mainstream porn is born out of the unrealistic sexual situations it portrays.

It also suggests that the rise of feminist porn is not only because of more and more women being open with their use of porn and demanding more porn being aimed at them. It also suggests that feminist porn generally has more realistic and relatable situations portrayed that appeals to an audience looking for more realism, regardless of their gender, and is quite rightly praising of the likes of Erika Lust, pictured above.

It’s difficult to argue against that. From what I’ve seen, feminist porn is also free of the unwarranted aggression that so much mainstream porn has. I also think it’s quite important that porn continues to be diverse and there has to be a place for so-called ‘mainstream’ porn to exist. But the rise of feminist porn can be nothing but a good thing for the industry and indeed society as a whole.
